The equivalent weight of $KMnO_4$ in alkaline medium will be [MP PMT 2001]

No explanation available.
A solution of $ SO_2 in water reacts with H_2S precipating sulphur. Here SO_2 $ acts as

In the reaction $ SO_2 + 2H_2S ightarrow 3S + 2H_2O $, sulphur dioxide ( $ SO_2 $ ) acts as an oxidizing agent. It oxidizes $ H_2S $ to sulfur (S), and in the process, $ SO_2 $ itself gets reduced to $ H_2O $. Hence, $ SO_2 $ is the oxidizing agent in this reaction.
When $ SO_2 $ is passed through cupric chloride solution

When $ SO_2 $ is passed through cupric chloride ( $ CuCl_2 $ ) solution, a white precipitate of $ Cu_2Cl_2 $ is formed, and the solution becomes colorless. The reaction is: $$ SO_2 + 2CuCl_2 + 2H_2O ightarrow Cu_2Cl_2 + 2HCl + H_2SO_4 $$. Here, $ SO_2 $ reduces $ CuCl_2 $ to $ Cu_2Cl_2 $, resulting in the formation of a white precipitate and a colorless solution.
What products are expected from disproportion reaction of hypochlorous acid.

$ 3HOCl^{(+1)} \rightarrow 2HCl^{(-1)} + HCl^{(+5)}O $
Mixture of $ conc. HCl \& HNO_3 $ made in 3:1 ratio contains

$ 3HCl + HNO_3 \rightarrow NOCl + 2H_2O + Cl_2 $
Bleaching action of chlorine is due to

$ Cl_2 + H_2O \rightarrow 2HCl + [O] $
Element that librates oxygen gas from water is

$ 2H_2O + 2F_2 \rightarrow 4HF + O_2 $
Which of following sequence is correct with reference to oxidation number of iodine

$ HI \lt I_2 \lt ICl \lt HIO_4 $
Chlorine is liberated when we heat

$ K_2Cr_2O_7 + 14HCl \rightarrow 2KCl + 2 CrCl_3 + 7H_2O + 3Cl_2 $.
Reduction reaction means ____

Reduction is a chemical reaction that involves the gain of electrons by a molecule, atom, or ion. This gain of electrons decreases the oxidation state of the substance. Therefore, the correct definition of a reduction reaction is 'a process of adding electrons.'
Which substance is oxidizing agent ?

An oxidizing agent is a substance that donates oxygen or accepts hydrogen. It causes the oxidation of another substance by accepting electrons from it or donating oxygen to it.
Which substance is called reducing agent ?

A reducing agent is a substance that donates hydrogen or accepts oxygen. It causes the reduction of another substance by donating electrons or hydrogen atoms to it.
Oxidation reaction means

Oxidation is the process of removing electrons from a substance. In a redox (reduction-oxidation) reaction, the substance that loses electrons is said to be oxidized.
Which of the following is the characterictic of reducing agent ?

A reducing agent is a substance that loses electrons and undergoes oxidation in a chemical reaction. By losing electrons, it reduces another substance. The correct characteristic of a reducing agent is that it experiences oxidation.
Which of the following is the characteristic of oxidizing agent ?

An oxidizing agent is a substance that gains electrons and undergoes reduction in a chemical reaction. By gaining electrons, it oxidizes another substance. The correct characteristic of an oxidizing agent is that it experiences reduction.
