ABO Blood Groups

Asked by Siddhu Sakth · 1 year ago

How do multiple alleles determine ABO blood groups in humans?

1 Answer

ABO blood groups in humans are determined by multiple alleles of a single gene. There are three alleles: IA, IB, and i. The IA and IB alleles are codominant, while i is recessive. The combinations of these alleles result in four blood types:

1. Type A (IAIA or IAi)
2. Type B (IBIB or IBi)
3. Type AB (IAIB)
4. Type O (ii)

This system demonstrates how multiple alleles can produce various phenotypes in a population.
