How NEET seats are allotted

15%

All India Quota (AIQ)

Government-college seats filled by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), open to candidates from any state.

85%

State Quota

Government-college seats filled by each state's counselling authority, usually reserved for domicile candidates.

In addition, the MCC conducts counselling for deemed and central universities, AIIMS, JIPMER, ESIC and AFMC seats, while private colleges fill their seats through the respective state or deemed-university counselling.

There are roughly 1.18 lakh (about 118,000) MBBS seats across government and private medical colleges, and the number increases most years as new colleges are approved. Confirm the latest count from MCC/NMC before counselling.

For government colleges, 15% of seats fall under the All India Quota (AIQ), filled by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), and 85% are State Quota seats filled by each state's counselling authority. Private, deemed and central universities have their own counselling under MCC.
