Why is H3PO3 considered a diprotic acid despite having three hydrogen atoms?
H3PO3 is considered a diprotic acid because only two of its hydrogen atoms (those in the -OH groups) can dissociate to form H+ ions in aqueous solution. The hydrogen directly bonded to phosphorus does not dissociate easily, making it behave as a diprotic acid.
