Adaptations and Efficiency

C4 plants are better adapted to hot and dry environments compared to C3 plants due to the following reasons:

1. Reduced photorespiration: C4 plants have a mechanism to concentrate CO2 around RuBisCO, reducing photorespiration and increasing efficiency.

2. Better water use efficiency: C4 plants can close their stomata partially during hot days, conserving water while still performing photosynthesis.

3. Higher temperature tolerance: The C4 pathway allows plants to maintain photosynthesis at higher temperatures.

4. Improved nitrogen use efficiency: C4 plants require less nitrogen for photosynthetic enzymes, making them more efficient in nutrient-poor soils.
