Amoeba Reproduction

Asked by Nalini Mehta · 1 year ago

What is the process of multiple fission in Amoeba?

1 Answer

Multiple fission in Amoeba is an asexual reproduction method that occurs under unfavorable conditions. The process involves the following steps:

1. The Amoeba withdraws its pseudopodia and becomes spherical.
2. It secretes a protective cyst around itself.
3. The nucleus divides repeatedly by mitosis.
4. The cytoplasm divides into as many parts as there are nuclei.
5. Each part develops into a small Amoeba called an amoebula.
6. When conditions become favorable, the cyst breaks open, and the amoebulae emerge.

This process allows Amoeba to produce multiple offspring rapidly when environmental conditions improve.
