How does Fajan's Rule explain the covalent character in ionic compounds?

1 Answer

According to Fajan's Rule, a cation with a high charge density can distort the electron cloud of an anion, inducing a covalent character. For example, AlCl3, which is expected to be ionic, shows significant covalent character.
