What is the Finkelstein reaction and what is its purpose?
The Finkelstein reaction is a halogen exchange reaction used to convert an alkyl halide into another alkyl halide using a sodium halide salt. For example, an alkyl chloride can be converted into an alkyl iodide by reacting it with sodium iodide in a polar solvent like acetone.
