Boron Anomaly

Asked by Aman Aman · 1 year ago

Why does boron show different properties compared to other group 13 elements?

1 Answer

Boron shows different properties due to its small size and high ionization energy:

1. It's a metalloid, while others are metals
2. It forms covalent compounds, unlike the ionic compounds of other elements
3. It has a higher melting point and is harder than other group 13 elements
4. It doesn't form B3+ ion due to high ionization energy
5. It shows diagonal relationship with silicon
