Calculating Electric Field Intensity

Asked by Krishna Bhaskar · 2 years ago

How do you calculate the electric field intensity due to a point charge?

1 Answer

To calculate the electric field intensity due to a point charge, we use Coulomb's law. According to the NCERT syllabus, the electric field intensity E due to a point charge Q at a distance r from the charge is given by:

E = k * Q / r2

where k is the Coulomb's constant, approximately equal to 8.99 x 109 N m2 C-2.

This formula shows that the electric field intensity decreases with the square of the distance from the point charge.
