Calculating Threshold Frequency

Asked by Anushka Kapoor · 1 year ago

How is threshold frequency related to work function?

1 Answer

Threshold frequency (ν0) is directly related to the work function (φ) of the metal. The relationship is given by the equation: φ = hν0, where h is Planck's constant. The work function is the minimum energy required to remove an electron from the metal surface. When the energy of the incident photon (hν) is equal to the work function, it corresponds to the threshold frequency. Any frequency above this will result in photoelectric emission.
