CGS Unit

Asked by Ananya Patelapati · 1 year ago

What is the CGS unit of surface tension and how does it relate to the SI unit?

1 Answer

The CGS (Centimeter-Gram-Second) unit of surface tension is:

Dyne per centimeter (dyne/cm)

To convert between CGS and SI units:

1 dyne/cm = 0.001 N/m

Or conversely:

1 N/m = 1000 dyne/cm

While the SI unit is more commonly used in modern scientific literature, you may encounter the CGS unit in some older texts or specialized applications.
