Coat Color in Rabbits

Asked by Farhana Hyd · 1 year ago

Can you explain how multiple alleles affect coat color in rabbits?

1 Answer

Coat color in rabbits is influenced by a series of multiple alleles at a single locus. There are four alleles in the series: C (full color), cch (chinchilla), ch (himalayan), and c (albino). The dominance hierarchy is as follows: C > cch > ch > c. Different combinations of these alleles result in various coat colors:

1. CC, Ccch, Cch, Cc: Full color
2. cchcch, cchch, cchc: Chinchilla
3. chch, chc: Himalayan
4. cc: Albino

This example illustrates how multiple alleles can create a range of phenotypes in a single trait.
