Definition of Isoelectronic Species

Asked by Nandini Kapoor · 1 year ago

What are isoelectronic species and how are they identified?

1 Answer

Isoelectronic species are atoms or ions that have the same number of electrons and the same electronic configuration. They can be identified by comparing the total number of electrons in different atoms or ions. For example, N3-, O2-, F-, Ne, Na+, and Mg2+ are isoelectronic species as they all have 10 electrons in their outermost shell.
