Deriving the Equation of Motion

Asked by Akshara Venkatesan · 2 years ago

How do we derive the first equation of motion in a straight line?

1 Answer

The first equation of motion relates velocity, acceleration, and time. It is given by:

v = u + at

Where,

  • v is the final velocity
  • u is the initial velocity
  • a is the acceleration
  • t is the time

Derivation:
We start with the definition of acceleration, which is the rate of change of velocity. Mathematically, it is expressed as:
a = (v - u) / t
Rearranging this equation to solve for final velocity (v), we get:
v = u + at
