Can you explain the developmental stages of microsporangium?

1 Answer

The development of the microsporangium involves several stages:

  1. Archesporial Stage: The archesporial cells differentiate from the sporogenous tissue.
  2. Sporogenous Stage: Archesporial cells give rise to the sporogenous tissue, which further differentiates into microspore mother cells (MMC).
  3. Meiotic Stage: MMCs undergo meiosis to form tetrads of haploid microspores.
  4. Microspore Stage: Each microspore then develops into a pollen grain through mitotic divisions.

These stages ensure the formation of functional pollen grains that can participate in fertilization.
