Electron Transport Chain

Asked by Aditya Kapoor · 1 year ago

How does the electron transport chain work in the light reaction of photosynthesis?

1 Answer

The electron transport chain in photosynthesis works as follows:
  1. Light excites electrons in PSII
  2. Electrons are passed to plastoquinone
  3. Electrons move to cytochrome b6f complex
  4. Plastocyanin receives the electrons
  5. Electrons are passed to PSI
  6. Light re-excites the electrons in PSI
  7. Electrons are transferred to ferredoxin
  8. NADP+ reductase uses the electrons to produce NADPH
This process pumps protons into the thylakoid space, creating a gradient used by ATP synthase to produce ATP.
