How do you write the electronic configuration of an element?

1 Answer

The electronic configuration of an element is written by:

1. Determining the total number of electrons (equal to the atomic number)
2. Filling electron shells and subshells in order (1s, 2s, 2p, 3s, 3p, 4s, 3d, etc.)
3. Using superscript numbers to indicate the number of electrons in each subshell

Example: Sodium (Na, atomic number 11) - 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s1
