Factors Affecting Chemical Equilibrium

Asked by Mishka Mistri · 2 years ago

What are the factors that affect chemical equilibrium and how do they influence the position of equilibrium?

1 Answer

Factors Affecting Chemical Equilibrium:

  • Concentration: Changing the concentration of reactants or products will shift the equilibrium position to oppose the change (Le Chatelier's Principle).
  • Temperature: Increasing the temperature favors the endothermic reaction, while decreasing it favors the exothermic reaction.
  • Pressure: Changing the pressure affects only gaseous equilibria. Increasing pressure shifts the equilibrium toward the side with fewer gas molecules.
  • Catalysts: Catalysts speed up the rate at which equilibrium is reached but do not affect the position of equilibrium.
