How is Plaster of Paris (POP) formed?

1 Answer

Plaster of Paris (POP) is formed by heating gypsum (CaSO4·2H2O) to 120°C. This process removes part of the water of crystallization, resulting in calcium sulfate hemihydrate (CaSO4·1/2H2O).
