Mechanism of Corey-House Synthesis

Asked by Deeni ML · 1 year ago

Can you explain the basic mechanism of the Corey-House synthesis reaction?

1 Answer

The Corey-House synthesis mechanism involves several steps:
1. Formation of the lithium diorganocopper reagent (R2CuLi) from an organolithium compound and a copper(I) salt.
2. Reaction of this reagent with an alkyl halide (R'-X).
3. Transfer of an alkyl group (R) from the copper reagent to the alkyl halide.
4. Formation of a new carbon-carbon bond, producing the desired alkane (R-R').
5. Regeneration of the copper reagent, allowing it to participate in further reactions.
This mechanism allows for the selective formation of new carbon-carbon bonds under mild conditions.
