Phases of Cell Cycle

Asked by Mohan Dr · 1 year ago

What are the main phases of the cell cycle?

1 Answer

The cell cycle consists of two main phases:

1. Interphase: This is further divided into three sub-phases:
a) G1 phase (Gap 1): Cell growth and preparation for DNA synthesis
b) S phase (Synthesis): DNA replication occurs
c) G2 phase (Gap 2): Preparation for cell division

2. M phase (Mitosis): The actual cell division process, which includes:
a) Prophase
b) Metaphase
c) Anaphase
d) Telophase

After mitosis, cytokinesis occurs, dividing the cytoplasm to form two daughter cells.
