Can someone explain the process of how food is transported in plants?
In plants, the transport of food primarily occurs through a tissue called phloem. The process is known as translocation. Phloem transports the food prepared by leaves to different parts of the plant. The food, mainly in the form of sucrose, is loaded into the phloem tubes through active transport. This creates a high osmotic pressure, causing water to enter the phloem from the adjacent xylem vessels. The pressure pushes the food solution through the phloem to various parts of the plant where it is needed or stored.
