Could you explain the key properties of colloidal solutions?

1 Answer

Colloidal solutions have several unique properties:

  • Tyndall Effect: Scattering of light by colloidal particles, making the path of the light visible.
  • Browniam Movement: Random, zigzag motion of colloidal particles due to collision with molecules of the dispersion medium.
  • Electrophoresis: Movement of colloidal particles towards an electrode when an electric field is applied.
  • Coagulation or Flocculation: Process by which colloidal particles aggregate to form larger particles, often due to the addition of an electrolyte.
  • Adsorption: Colloidal particles have a high tendency to adsorb substances on their surface.
