Why are haloarenes less reactive towards nucleophilic substitution reactions compared to haloalkanes?
Haloarenes are less reactive towards nucleophilic substitution reactions because of the resonance stabilization in the benzene ring. The electron density is delocalized over the aromatic ring, making the carbon-halogen bond stronger and less likely to be broken by a nucleophile.
