Relation between Mendel's Laws and Chromosomal Theory

Asked by Prathima Venkateshwaran · 2 years ago

How do Mendel's Laws of Inheritance relate to the Chromosomal Theory of Inheritance?

1 Answer

Mendel's Laws of Inheritance include the Law of Segregation and the Law of Independent Assortment. The Chromosomal Theory of Inheritance provides a physical basis for these laws. According to the theory, chromosomes carry genes, and during meiosis, chromosomes segregate and assort independently. This segregation and independent assortment of chromosomes during gamete formation align with Mendel's observations of how traits are inherited.
