What is the SI unit of electric charge and how is it defined?

1 Answer

The SI unit of electric charge is the coulomb (C). It is defined as:

1 coulomb = 1 ampere × 1 second

This means that a charge of one coulomb is equivalent to the amount of charge transferred by a current of one ampere flowing for one second.

In terms of fundamental particles, one coulomb is approximately equal to 6.242 × 1018 electrons (or protons).
