Structure and Function of Microsporangium

Asked by Aarav S · 2 years ago

What is the structure and function of microsporangium in a flowering plant?

1 Answer

The microsporangium, commonly known as the pollen sac, is a structure found in the anthers of flowering plants. It is responsible for the production of pollen grains. Each anther typically contains four microsporangia. Inside the microsporangia, diploid microspore mother cells (MMC) undergo meiosis to form haploid microspores. These microspores further develop into pollen grains, which are the male gametophytes.
