Tidal Volume

Asked by Aaradhya Kapoor · 1 year ago

What is tidal volume and how is it measured?

1 Answer

Tidal volume (TV) is the amount of air inhaled or exhaled during normal, relaxed breathing. It is typically measured as follows:

1. The person breathes normally into a spirometer.
2. The volume of air moved in one breath is recorded.
3. This is usually about 500 mL in an average adult.

Tidal volume is important because it's used to calculate other lung capacities and can indicate respiratory health.
