Torque Dimensional Formula

Asked by Vikram Veda · 1 year ago

What is the dimensional formula of torque and how is it derived?

1 Answer

The dimensional formula of torque is [M L2 T-2].

Derivation:
1. Torque (τ) = Force (F) × Distance (r)
2. Dimensional formula of Force = [M L T-2]
3. Dimensional formula of Distance = [L]
4. Torque = [M L T-2] × [L] = [M L2 T-2]

This formula shows that torque has the same dimensions as energy or work, which is consistent with the fact that torque is a measure of rotational force.
