Understanding Haloalkanes

Asked by Zainab Fatima · 2 years ago

What are haloalkanes and how are they classified?

1 Answer

Haloalkanes are alkanes where one or more hydrogen atoms have been replaced by halogen atoms like fluorine, chlorine, bromine, or iodine. They are classified based on the number of halogen atoms present as mono, di, tri, etc. They can also be classified based on the nature of the carbon atom to which the halogen is attached (primary, secondary, or tertiary).
