Understanding Mole Fraction

Asked by Siddharth Choudhury · 2 years ago

Can someone explain what is mole fraction and how it is calculated?

1 Answer

Mole fraction is a way of expressing the concentration of a component in a mixture. It is the ratio of the number of moles of a particular component to the total number of moles of all the components in the mixture.

The formula to calculate mole fraction (X) is:

X_A = rac{n_A}{n_A + n_B}

Where:
- X_A is the mole fraction of component A
- n_A is the number of moles of component A
- n_B is the number of moles of component B

Note that the sum of mole fractions of all components in a mixture is always equal to 1.
