Understanding the Pyramid of Biomass

The pyramid of biomass represents the total mass of living organisms at each trophic level in an ecosystem. Unlike the pyramid of numbers, which shows the number of individual organisms at each level, the pyramid of biomass shows the total weight (usually in grams per square meter) of all organisms at each trophic level. Generally, the pyramid of biomass is more accurate in representing the flow of energy and matter through an ecosystem because it takes into account the actual mass of the organisms, not just their numbers.
