Using a Screw Gauge

To measure the diameter of a thin wire using a screw gauge, place the wire between the spindle and the anvil. Rotate the thimble until the wire is just held firmly. Read the main scale reading and add it to the circular scale reading (multiplied by the least count) to get the diameter of the wire.
