What are the physical properties of Haloarenes?

Asked by Neha Patel · 2 years ago

I am having trouble understanding the physical properties of haloarenes. Can someone simplify and explain these properties?

1 Answer

The physical properties of haloarenes, as explained in Class 12 NCERT, include:

  • Boiling and Melting Points: Haloarenes have higher boiling and melting points compared to hydrocarbons of similar molecular mass due to the presence of polar C-X bonds and higher molecular mass.
  • Solubility: Haloarenes are insoluble in water due to their inability to form hydrogen bonds with water molecules. However, they are soluble in organic solvents.
  • Density: Haloarenes are denser than water. The density increases with an increase in the number of halogen atoms and the atomic mass of the halogen.
