What is respiration in plants?

Asked by Anu Pathak · 2 years ago

Can anyone explain what respiration in plants is and how it occurs?

1 Answer

Respiration in Plants refers to the process by which plants take in oxygen and release carbon dioxide. Unlike photosynthesis, which occurs only in the presence of light, respiration occurs all the time. In plants, respiration happens in every cell, both day and night.

How it Occurs: During respiration, plants use oxygen to break down glucose (which is produced during photosynthesis) into carbon dioxide and water, releasing energy in the process. This energy is used for various metabolic activities essential for the plant's growth and maintenance.
