Escape velocity is the minimum speed needed for an object to break free from the gravitational attraction of a massive body, without further propulsion.
For Earth, the escape velocity is approximately 11.2 km/s (or about 40,270 km/h). This means that any object, like a spacecraft, needs to travel at least at this speed to leave Earth's gravitational field and enter space.
This concept is important because it helps scientists and engineers design rockets and space missions, ensuring they have enough speed to overcome Earth's gravity and reach their desired orbits or destinations.
