Explanation

Fluorine can displace chlorine from chlorides but chlorine cannot displace fluorine from fluorides.

Radon is a noble gas. Its radioactivity is used in the treatment of:

Explanation

(b)

Radon decays into radioactive polonium and alpha particles. This emitted radiation made radon useful in cancer therapy.

Explanation

the gas (preferably hydrogen or helium) is enclosed in a glass or fused-quartz bulb connected to a mercury manometer.

Liquid flow from a higher to a lower level. Which of the following liquids can climb up the wall of the glass vessel in which it is placed?

You've reached today's free limit of 20 questions. Log in to keep practising for free.
Explanation

Helium has the lowest boiling point  among any known substance. When helium is cooled further , it undergoes a phase change. This phase of helium, known as Helium II, is a superfluid. It means that the viscosity of liquid becomes zero (approx.). At the same time, its thermal conductivity becomes infinite.
Because the viscosity is almost zero, the fluid flows very easily as a result of the smallest pressure or change in temperature. The response is so strong that even the smallest forces will help the light-weight liquid climb against the force of gravity.
If you have liquid helium inside and outside your system, the liquid inside will flow until it matches the level of the liquid outside and the temperature.

Explanation

Argon is also used to form inert atmospheres for arc welding,

growing semiconductor crystals and processes that require shielding from other atmospheric gases.

Under ambient conditions, the total number of gases released as products in the final step of the reaction scheme shown below is:

Explanation

The complete hydrolysis of XeF6 produces XeOF4 (P), which on treatment with OH-/H2O produces XeO3 (Q). The slow disproportionation of XeO3 in OH-/H2O produces two gaseous products, O2 and Xe, according to the equation: 3XeO3 + 6OH- → Xe + 2XeO4^2- + 3H2O + O2.

Among the following reactions, in which of the following, a blue complex will be formed when starch solution is added?

(A) When chlorine is passed through NaI

(B) Sodium iodate is treated with sodium bisulphite solution

(C) KI is treated with MnO2 and conc. H2SO4

(D) KI is added to bleaching powder containing dilute acetic acid
